In the spring of 2017, the intitiative “Lithium” was launched. The goal is to provide consumers with a unified source of high-quality information about working with lithium batteries, to encourage them to develop safe habits, and to develop a consistent and unified public outreach effort for both industry and the waste management sector.
In close collaboration of all partners, the Austrian Coordination Body For Waste Electrical And Electronic Equipment (EAK) has developed a brochure and two posters designed to inform consumers of key points to remember when working with these types of batteries. These materials are available for download from our “lithium battery page“.
On Thursday, February 21, 2019, the 2nd meeting of the “Initiative Lithium” took place in the Austrian chamber of commerce (WKO), where about 50 representatives of the manufacturers / importers for EAG and GBATT, trade, the ministry of sustainability and tourism, the collection schemes, the FEEI, the VÖEB, the association for waste- and ressourcemanagement, the Montan-University, the WKO and the EAK participated. The next summit meeting of the “Initiative Lithium” is scheduled for spring 2021.
By increasing the joint efforts on public relations concerning the important issue of “proper handling of lithium batteries / rechargeable batteries”, the knowledge of the general public should be deepened, leading to an increase of the collection rate.
